How to Add Your Business to Google Maps

The first step is to claim your Google My Business page. If you’re a well-known business, then it’s very likely that your business is already present in Google Business Pages directory and you just need to claim it. Thereafter, you can add your location on Google Maps, along with other details such as working hours. If you haven’t created a google business page yet, you’ll need to create a new Business Profile on Google My Business Pages.

2. Add Google My Business Locations

Next, you’ll see a form where you need to add business details such as business name, address & phone number (also called NAP details). When you provide NAP details, remember to provide the exact same name, address & phone number that’s mentioned on your website. This will become your official address on the web. So keep it consistent.

Also, providing the same name, address and phone number that’s present on your website, improves your local search rankings.

3. Select Business Category

You’ll also need to provide your business category. This is super important as it helps Google classify your business and rank you for appropriate keywords. Google has pre-configured keywords and search terms for each industry. So type in your keyword to see if Google gives you a match, and select the closest matching business category from the list. You can add more categories for your business later when you edit your Google Business Page. Just select one for now.

The key is to be as detailed as possible so that google can rank your business for a wide range of keywords and search phrases.

4. Verify My Business

Once you submit the required details about your business, Google will want to verify your business address that you mention while creating your Google Business Page. Within 1-2 weeks, you’ll receive a postcard with a verification PIN that you’ll need to enter on your business page to verify your business location. Sometimes, you may also get an option to receive verification PIN via text or automated phone call. If you are to get a postcard, please remember that you have 30 days to verify your address. After that the PIN won’t be valid and you’ll have to request a new PIN.
